Connecting Mississippi Youth & Families through Literacy

Karmen Hobson serves as Program Assistant for the Magnolia Literacy Project’s Blossoms Mother-Daughter Reading Club. She is a 2025 graduate of Murrah High School and a student in the Jackson Middle College (JMC) program, a unique educational initiative in Jackson, Mississippi. JMC allows high school students to take college courses at Jackson State University (JSU) while still enrolled in high school. This program, a partnership between Jackson Public Schools (JPS) and JSU, focuses on preparing students to become math teachers, addressing a national shortage. Karmen started her undergraduate studies during her junior year of high school and is now a member of the W.E.B. Du Bois - Maria Luisa Alvarez Harvey Honors College at JSU. In the fall of 2025, she will enter her junior year at JSU.
