Connecting Mississippi Youth & Families through Literacy

Maliya Wilson serves as Program Assistant for the Magnolia Literacy Project’s Blossoms Mother-Daughter Reading Club. She is a student in the Jackson Middle College (JMC) program, a unique educational initiative in Jackson, Mississippi. JMC allows high school students to take college courses at Jackson State University (JSU) while still enrolled in high school. This program, a partnership between Jackson Public Schools (JPS) and JSU, focuses on preparing students to become math teachers, addressing a national shortage. Maliya started her undergraduate studies during her junior year of high school and is now a member of the W.E.B. Du Bois - Maria Luisa Alvarez Harvey Honors College at JSU. She is also a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and the National Association of Collegiate Scholars. In the fall of 2025, Maliya will enter her senior year at Provine High School as well as her sophomore year at JSU.
