Connecting Mississippi Youth & Families through Literacy
Blossoms Mother-Daughter Reading Club
“Blossoms” are the daughters of “Magnolias”, women who lead the village.
The Magnolia Literacy Project’s (MLP) Blossoms Mother-Daughter Reading Club fosters voice, agency, and self-confidence while preparing young women to be advocates in their communities. In bi-weekly workshops, female Gen-Z'ers collaborate with their mothers while reading and discussing texts centered on girlhood, womanhood, and their unique cultural experiences. This initiative is sponsored by the Mississippi Humanities Council.
Through the literary experience, mothers' dreams of watching their daughters soar are actualized.
